Overview

The Student Management System (SMS) is an administration platform for an institute. It has separate portals for admins, teachers and students, and a facial-recognition attendance system that works in real time.

The challenge

Attendance is one of the most repetitive jobs in a classroom. The aim was to take it off the teacher's hands: a camera recognises students, and the lecture view updates while the class is running, without a manual roll call or a page refresh.

What I built

Three portals

  • An admin portal for running the institute.
  • A teacher portal.
  • A student portal.

Real-time facial-recognition attendance

Attendance is camera-driven. As students are recognised, a WebSocket stream pushes each match into the lecture view live, so the teacher sees attendance build up during the session.

Scheduling and mobile

  • Calendar views with FullCalendar.
  • A mobile build with Capacitor.

Tech & architecture

  • Angular 21 with Angular SSR, and NgRx for state.
  • PrimeNG and Tailwind CSS.
  • FullCalendar and Capacitor.
  • A Django backend, with WebSockets for the live attendance stream.

Outcome

Admins, teachers and students each have a portal built for their role, and attendance is taken by the system rather than by hand: recognised students appear in the lecture view as it happens.
